Historical note
KASTEEL VALKENBURG, verwoest 1672; burchtruine op de steile helling ten zuiden van de stad. Het kasteel, waarvan nog belangrijke muurgedeelten overeind staat, XIX-XV, was aan alle zijden omgeven door een omhoog klimmende versterkte weg, een z.g. dwingel waarvan aan de oostzijde resten bewaard zijn.
