Lecture éditoriale

Historic England identifies a sixteenth-century core, later-seventeenth-century work in one wing and substantial eighteenth-century development. The principal garden front belongs to the early nineteenth century, with a prominent bow rising through its height.

Rendered walls, classical window details and a balustraded parapet give that frontage a different character from the older inherited house. The current operator offers bedrooms, group facilities and a chapel within a wider estate of gardens, paths and other accommodation.

Our editorial reading: the layered architecture and present retreat use are related parts of the story. A formal country-house exterior now frames experiences of residence, reflection and landscape.

Conseils de visite

Check current accommodation, retreat and event arrangements directly. Grounds, tea-room access, chapel activities and privately occupied rooms have different conditions; do not assume that a casual estate visit includes an interior tour.
