Lecture éditoriale

The estate's history records completion of the first brick house in 1708, replacing an older manor. A larger residence was then built beside it and adapted by later generations of the Wilbraham family.

Twentieth-century repair was important to its survival. The operator describes extensive work following serious dry rot, completed in 1987, alongside continuing garden restoration. Portraits, furniture and ceramics form part of the domestic collection presented to visitors.

Our editorial reading: the neighbouring ranges make changing expectations of scale and comfort visible. The restoration history also shows how public opening and the practical care of a family residence became linked.
