Lecture éditoriale
The operator identifies Sir Nicholas Prideaux as the builder of the house overlooking Padstow and the Camel Estuary. It attributes much of the present appearance to successive sixteenth-, eighteenth- and early-nineteenth-century family campaigns.
The result combines Elizabethan architecture with later Strawberry Hill Gothic influences. A continuing restoration programme began after the present family succession in 1988. The house's history also records restricted access to parts of the north wing, illustrating that the visitor tour covers selected rooms rather than the entire residence.
Our editorial reading: the value lies in the conversation between those periods. Later Gothic taste adds a new interpretation of the past to an older domestic framework.
