Lecture éditoriale
Historic England identifies an original E-shaped house built from 1607, surviving within the centre and part of the western wing. Eighteenth-century rebuilding changed other ranges and the appearance of the principal fronts.
Further additions include a late-nineteenth-century loggia, dining-room extension and an early-twentieth-century billiard room. Materials and openings vary between ranges, including stone, brick, mathematical tiles, mullioned windows and sashes. These differences make the sequence of adaptation more revealing than a single founding date.
Our editorial reading: Nunwell illustrates how a family residence expanded around inherited buildings. The varied elevations record changing expectations of domestic space and architectural presentation.
