Lecture éditoriale

Historic England identifies the original house with Thomas Denison, a northern addition in 1814 and substantial refacing around 1830 for Christopher Beckett. Its account attributes that later work to John Clark.

The listed exterior includes a rusticated ground floor, Ionic porch, projecting bays and classical window details. The interior description records decorative halls, fireplaces and a divided cantilevered stair. These features explain its country-house significance beneath the later institutional name.

The listing's account of hospital use is historical documentation, not confirmation of present medical services.

Our editorial reading: changing institutional labels can conceal earlier architectural identities. The sequence from residence to another use should be kept visible.
