Lecture éditoriale
Historic England describes a medieval hall with domestic chambers and service spaces arranged beside it. Its patterned flint walls, stone details, turrets and parapets give the house a distinctive appearance, but much of the later work deliberately follows earlier forms.
The listing records additions in 1864 and further changes in the twentieth century, including reused windows and rebuilt sections. These alterations should not be confused with the surviving fifteenth-century fabric. The moat and wider landscape remain important to understanding the house's enclosure and approach.
Our editorial reading: Mannington demonstrates continuity through imitation and repair as well as survival. A consistent Gothic appearance can conceal quite different construction dates.
