The Julia Margaret Cameron Trust identifies Dimbola as Cameron's home from 1860 to 1875. Two adjoining dwellings were joined with a central tower, while an outbuilding became a photographic studio. The house's name reflects the family's connection with Dimbula in Sri Lanka.
The institution describes surviving features alongside a recreated bedroom, so the visitor setting should not be mistaken for an entirely unchanged Victorian interior. Exhibitions place Cameron's work alongside later photography and aspects of Isle of Wight cultural history. The Trust was formed in 1993 as part of the effort to save the property from partial demolition.
