Editorial reading
Historic England identifies late-fifteenth- and late-sixteenth-century fabric at the northern end, with timber framing visible inside and later seventeenth-century additions. The mansion was enlarged and encased in brick around 1870.
Further adaptations followed in 1920, including a music room. The listing relates the house to the opera initiative begun by John Christie in 1934, but it is a record of the historic residence rather than a description of every present-day theatre facility. The house's irregular plan reflects successive phases of domestic development.
Our editorial reading: Glyndebourne connects private residence, musical patronage and a wider performance landscape. Keeping the house's earlier history distinct from the institution's later buildings makes that relationship clearer.

Recommendation
Use the opera organisation's official calendar for current performance, tour and garden arrangements. A theatre ticket should not be assumed to include access to the historic house or all estate buildings; check the specific experience being booked.
