Editorial reading
Historic England dates much of the western half to the early sixteenth century, with possible earlier fabric. The first Viscount Gage remodelled its exterior between 1744 and 1754; the eastern half was added later in the eighteenth century.
The listing describes a long stone frontage, varied window forms and a carriage entrance leading to a courtyard. Older features remain within the house, including a Tudor hall and earlier fireplaces and doorways, while Georgian decoration and the picture gallery belong to subsequent campaigns.
Our editorial reading: the exterior presents an image of eighteenth-century order over a building of several periods. Looking for the older surviving openings and the relationship between ranges helps explain how that order was created.

Recommendation
Check the estate's current house-opening and booking information before travelling. Private events, filming and the wider estate's activities have separate arrangements and should not be treated as unrestricted admission to the mansion or its interiors.
