Redaktionelle Einordnung
Historic England describes the house as probably medieval in origin, extended in the sixteenth century and altered again during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Its apparent stylistic unity conceals an inherited plan and several campaigns of work.
The listing records a richly treated entrance, irregular window arrangements, historic stairs and decorative interiors. Parlour and dining-room plasterwork is attributed to William Belwood in 1781–1783. It also notes restoration and replacement within the older stair, making clear that not every visible component is original.
Our editorial reading: compare the picturesque roofline with the more classical interior decoration. The house demonstrates how successive generations could reinterpret an older residence without erasing its irregularities.
