Redaktionelle Einordnung
Historic England identifies Leonard Stokes as the architect of Minterne House for Lord Digby. It distinguishes this early-twentieth-century building from the much older history of residence on the estate.
Ham Hill stone, mullioned windows, gables and an eastern tower form an eclectic exterior. The listed interior has a double-height hall with a vaulted ceiling and carved gallery, while the tapestry room was designed to accommodate an existing collection. Reused fireplaces and decorative elements connect the new house with earlier material histories.
Our editorial reading: Minterne offers a clear example of an old family estate expressed through a comparatively new building. Its historical furnishings and revival styles should not be mistaken for proof that the standing house is medieval.
