Redaktionelle Einordnung
Historic England places construction for Philip Packer between 1652 and 1674 and explicitly distinguishes the medieval site from the surviving house. Its account identifies limited modernisation around 1700 and renovation in 1919.
An H-shaped plan places a central hall between domestic wings. The entrance front has an Ionic loggia and pedimented porch, while historic panelling, fireplaces and stairs contribute to the interiors. Some decorative material was reused from an earlier house, so its date does not establish the age of every surrounding room.
Our editorial reading: the relationship between an older moat and a later residence is fundamental. The formal exterior and inherited domestic plan offer different perspectives on seventeenth-century living.
