Redaktionelle Einordnung
The institution describes Fairfax House as a townhouse with more than 250 years of history. Its museum interpretation centres on people, using furnished rooms, exhibitions and events to explain the building and the society associated with it.
The Noel Terry collection brings together furniture, clocks, paintings and decorative arts. Its presence is fundamental to the museum experience, but a displayed collection should not automatically be treated as the original contents of every room. The operator also runs changing exhibitions and engagement activities alongside the furnished-house visit.
Our editorial reading: Fairfax broadens the world of historic houses beyond rural estates. The urban setting encourages comparison between domestic display, collections and the social life of a city.
