Editorial reading
The National Trust's heritage record identifies a medieval manor incorporating an earlier prebendal house. A surviving north wing dates to around the late twelfth century, with further halls and alterations added over subsequent centuries. The estate's medieval documentary references should not be treated as a construction date for every surviving part.
The record attributes a major transformation in 1519–1521 to William Knight: extensions joined existing halls, and a gallery linked the wings around an open courtyard. Renaissance stonework, including an ornate fireplace and doorcase, belongs to this phase. Later changes and conservation add further layers.
Our editorial reading: distinguish the medieval hall fabric from the early-sixteenth-century reorganisation. Horton is valuable as a sequence of adaptations rather than a house of one period.

Recommendation
The current National Trust website presents Horton Court as holiday accommodation. Check the operator's explicit access and booking arrangements; listing in this collection does not establish a regular walk-in house visit or public access to the grounds.
