Editorial reading
Historic England describes Bradley House at Maiden Bradley as the remains of an early-eighteenth-century country house. The present main range was originally the west wing of a building arranged around three sides of a south-facing courtyard. Demolition and alterations in 1821 substantially changed that composition.
The listing records a rendered limestone exterior, sash windows, a balustraded parapet and pedimented dormers. A nineteenth-century porch uses earlier stylistic references and displays the Seymour arms. Reception rooms retain features attributed to the later eighteenth century, while service accommodation and an additional rear range record further adaptation.
Our editorial reading: the missing portions matter as much as the surviving front. Bradley is an example of a major country seat reshaped to a smaller scale, rather than a complete original ensemble.
