Archive recordChâteau de Villesavin
Tour-en-Sologne · Loir-et-Cher — France — XVI
Château de Villesavin was built for Jean le Breton, secretary of finance to François I, after the king entrusted him with overseeing the works at Chambord. The estate’s own history therefore intersects with one of the largest royal building projects of the French Renaissance. Villesavin’s more intimate scale is sometimes reflected in its nickname, the ‘construction hut of Chambord’, but it is a residence in its own right, with a courtyard, outbuildings and grounds. The current family estate presents furnished rooms together with a wedding museum, a collection of horse-drawn vehicles and other family-history displays. Seasonal opening arrangements and the mix of indoor and outdoor collections make it useful to plan the visit around current information rather than the château alone.
