Château de Langeais
Langeais · Indre-et-Loire — France — XV
The present Château de Langeais was rebuilt for Louis XI in the fifteenth century beside the remains of an earlier keep. Charles VIII married Anne of Brittany here on 6 December 1491. Jacques Siegfried bought the property in 1886, restored and furnished it, and donated it to the Institut de France in 1904. The furnished rooms and late medieval tapestries reflect that collecting project. For the wedding date and royal couple, this dossier follows the owner’s history: the register quotation reproduced below gives a conflicting date and husband.
