Domaine du château de Talcy
Talcy · Loir-et-Cher — France — XIII–XVIII
The estate of Talcy has medieval origins, but the silhouette of the present château is chiefly associated with the changes made after Florentine banker Bernard Salviati bought the property in 1517. Its fortified-looking entrance and restrained decoration distinguish it from the more overtly Italianate royal residences of the Loire. In the eighteenth century the Burgeat family modernised the interiors and laid out a regular garden as part of a working rural estate. The rooms retain furnishings and arrangements from that period, while the garden and orchard were restored in the 1990s. Talcy is also associated with the poets Pierre de Ronsard and Agrippa d’Aubigné through the Salviati family. The state acquired the château in 1933, and the Centre des monuments nationaux now manages it.
